In 2013 registration of pure electric and hybrid vehicles far outstripped previous years, with an estimated 70% increase in sales on the previous year. Potential buyers are being attracted to electric vehicles because of tax breaks, lower running costs and environmental credentials, and government funded grant incentives such as the supply and installation of free car chargers and plug-in car grants. If you have considered buying an Electric Vehicle it’s worth first finding out whether your EV of choice qualifies for a Plug-In Car Grant.
There are a growing number of electric vehicles that qualify for the Plug-in Car Grant administered by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV). Grants are available for cars and commercial vehicles whether a private or fleet buyers. The grants comprise:
- 25% off the cost of a car, up to a maximum of £5,000
- 20% off the cost of a van up to a maximum of £8,000
